# Anonymous Posting

Some forums support anonymous posting. This lets you join a discussion without showing your identity to other members.

## How It Works

When composing a thread or reply in a forum that allows anonymous posting:

1. Look for the **Post Anonymously** toggle in the editor.
2. Enable the toggle before submitting your post.
3. Your post is published with the author shown as **"Anonymous"** and a generic avatar.

Your username is not displayed on the post, and other members cannot tell who wrote it.

## Which Forums Support It

Anonymous posting is enabled per forum by administrators. When a forum allows it, the **Post Anonymously** toggle appears in the editor.

Common use cases for anonymous forums include:

- Feedback and suggestion forums.
- Sensitive topics (health, personal finance, workplace issues).
- Confession or vent threads.

## Moderator Visibility

Your identity is hidden from regular members, but **moderators and admins can see the true author** of an anonymous post. This is necessary to:

- Enforce community rules.
- Investigate reports of harassment or threats.
- Apply moderation actions (warnings, bans) when needed.

This visibility is recorded in the moderation audit trail. Moderators are expected to keep anonymous identities private except when rules enforcement requires otherwise.

## Tips

- Do not include identifying details in the body of your post (your real name, unique specifics, and so on). Anonymity only applies to the author field, not the words you write.
- Use anonymous posting for its intended purpose. Abusing it to harass or troll carries the same consequences as doing so under your own account.
