Anonymous Posting
Some forums on the platform support anonymous posting. This feature allows you to participate in discussions without revealing your identity to other members.
How It Works
When composing a thread or reply in a forum that supports anonymous posting:
- Look for the Post Anonymously toggle in the editor.
- Enable the toggle before submitting your post.
- Your post is published with the author shown as "Anonymous" and a generic avatar.
Your username is not displayed anywhere on the post, and other members cannot determine who wrote it.
Which Forums Support It
Anonymous posting is enabled on a per-forum basis by administrators. Forums that support it display an "Anonymous posting allowed" label in the forum description.
Common use cases for anonymous forums include:
- Feedback and suggestion forums.
- Sensitive topics (health, personal finance, workplace issues).
- Confession or vent threads.
- Whistleblower or reporting forums.
Moderator Visibility
While your identity is hidden from regular members, moderators and admins can see the true author of anonymous posts. This is necessary to:
- Enforce community rules against anonymous abuse.
- Investigate reports of harassment or threats.
- Apply moderation actions (warnings, bans) if needed.
This visibility is logged in the moderation audit trail. Moderators are bound by community policy not to reveal anonymous identities except when required by rules enforcement.
Limitations
- You cannot edit an anonymous post after submission (to prevent accidental de-anonymization via edit history).
- Anonymous posts do not earn karma or count toward trust level progression.
- Reactions on anonymous posts are not attributed to you in public activity.
- Anonymous posts cannot be crossposted.
Tips
- Do not include identifying information in your anonymous post content (real name, unique details, etc.) as the anonymity only applies to the author field.
- Use anonymous posting for its intended purpose. Abusing it to harass or troll carries the same consequences as doing so with your real account.
