Polls
Polls let you gather opinions from the community by attaching a voting question to any thread.
Adding a Poll to a Thread
- When creating or editing a thread, click the Add Poll button in the editor toolbar.
- Enter your poll question.
- Add between 2 and 10 answer options.
- Configure poll settings (see below).
- Publish the thread. The poll appears at the top of the thread, above the main content.
Poll Settings
| Setting | Options | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Allow multiple choices | Yes / No | No |
| Show results before voting | Yes / No | No |
| Allow vote changes | Yes / No | Yes |
| Close poll after | Never / 1 day / 3 days / 7 days / 30 days / Custom date | Never |
| Anonymous voting | Yes / No | No |
When anonymous voting is enabled, the system records votes but does not display who voted for which option.
Voting
To vote in a poll:
- Select your choice (or choices, if multiple selection is enabled).
- Click Vote.
- The results are displayed immediately after you vote, showing percentages and a bar chart.
If the poll allows vote changes, you can click Change Vote to update your selection.
Viewing Results
After voting, you see:
- A horizontal bar chart with percentages for each option.
- The total number of votes cast.
- If not anonymous: a "View Voters" link that shows who voted for each option.
Poll results update in real time as new votes come in.
Closing a Poll
The thread author or a moderator can close a poll at any time by clicking Close Poll. A closed poll displays final results and no longer accepts votes. The close action is reversible — click Reopen Poll to accept votes again.
Tips
- Polls are a great way to gauge interest before proposing a community change.
- Keep your options clear and mutually distinct to get useful data.
- If you need more complex surveys, consider linking to an external form and discussing the results in the thread.
