New Member Onboarding

When you join, an onboarding journey helps you set up your profile and discover content you care about. Each community designs its own journey, so the exact steps you see depend on how your community set things up.

Typical steps

  1. Choose your interests. Pick topics to seed your feed and recommended forums.
  2. Join communities. Opt into the member communities that match your vibe.
  3. Set your display name and avatar. Personalize your profile.
  4. A welcome and first steps. A greeting plus prompts to get started.

You can skip any step or go straight to the community, and revisit your interests and profile settings any time from Account → Settings.

For community admins

On Pro and up, you design the whole sequence yourself in your admin area under Community → Onboarding: add steps, reorder them, write your own copy, choose which picks new members make, and add a drip of intro emails over their first days. Build a journey, make it live, and every new member follows it. With no journey active, members get the standard interest picker above.
