Tags & Hashtags
Tags are labels you attach to threads to categorize them by topic. Hashtags work the same way but are created inline by typing #keyword in your post content.
Creating Tags
When composing a new thread, you can add tags in the Tags field below the title.
- Start typing to search existing tags.
- If no match is found, a new tag is created automatically (subject to your trust level — see below).
- You can add up to 5 tags per thread.
Tag Creation Permissions
| Trust Level | Can Create New Tags? |
|---|---|
| New Member | No (can only use existing tags) |
| Member | Yes |
| Trusted | Yes |
| Moderator / Admin | Yes (and can rename or merge tags) |
Browsing by Tag
Click any tag on a thread to see all threads sharing that tag. You can also browse the full tag directory from the Tags page in the navigation menu.
The tag directory shows:
- Tag name and description (if set by a moderator).
- Number of threads using the tag.
- Recent activity.
Subscribing to Tags
You can subscribe to tags to receive notifications when new threads are posted with that tag.
- Navigate to the tag page.
- Click the Subscribe bell icon.
- Choose your notification preference: Every Post, Daily Digest, or Weekly Digest.
Subscribed tags also influence your personalized feed — content tagged with your subscriptions is boosted in the "For You" tab.
Hashtags in Post Content
Type # followed by a keyword (no spaces) anywhere in your post to create an inline hashtag. For example, typing #photography links to the "photography" tag page and adds that tag to the thread if it is not already present.
Tag Moderation
Moderators and admins can:
- Rename a tag (all existing uses are updated automatically).
- Merge two tags into one (useful for consolidating duplicates like "photo" and "photography").
- Delete a tag (removes the label from all threads; the threads themselves remain).
- Add descriptions to tags to guide proper usage.
