Appeals
If you believe a moderation action taken against your account was unjust or made in error, you can submit an appeal.
What Can Be Appealed
You can appeal the following actions:
- Warnings — formal warnings added to your account.
- Mutes — temporary restrictions on posting.
- Temporary bans — time-limited account suspensions.
- Permanent bans — indefinite account suspensions.
- Content removals — posts or threads that were deleted by moderators.
How to Submit an Appeal
If You Can Still Access Your Account
- Go to Settings > Account > Moderation History.
- Find the action you want to appeal.
- Click Appeal This Action.
- Write a clear, respectful explanation of why you believe the action should be reversed.
- Submit the appeal.
If You Are Banned and Cannot Log In
Send an email to the community support address listed on the site's contact page. Include:
- Your username.
- The approximate date of the ban.
- Your explanation for why the ban should be reconsidered.
The Appeal Process
- Submission — your appeal is logged and assigned to a senior moderator or admin who was not involved in the original action.
- Review — the reviewer examines the original action, your appeal statement, and any relevant context (post history, prior warnings).
- Decision — the reviewer issues one of three outcomes:
- Upheld — the original action stands. The reason is explained.
- Modified — the action is reduced (e.g., permanent ban changed to temporary).
- Overturned — the action is reversed and removed from your record.
- Notification — you receive a notification (or email, if banned) with the decision and explanation.
Timeline
Appeals are typically reviewed within 48 to 72 hours. Complex cases may take longer. You receive an acknowledgment notification when your appeal is received.
Guidelines
- You may submit one appeal per moderation action.
- Appeals should focus on facts and context, not personal attacks on the moderating team.
- Submitting frivolous or abusive appeals may result in appeal privileges being suspended.
- If your appeal is denied, the decision is final unless new evidence is presented.
